The Pousada Alijo (official name Pousada Barão de Forrester) is a charming hotel located in the heart of the Douro Wine Region. It sits among many of the famous "quintas", small estates where the Porto Wine vineyards grow, and for this reason, is the perfect base for wine aficionados wanting to explore the port wine bodegas and vineyards.

The proximity of the Douro river allows guests to go on pleasant cruises, and enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.

The old town of Alijo is fun to explore. Next to the town hall, in the ancient part of the town, is the Pillory – classified as Building of public Interest. Some of the other monuments to visit are; the Parish Church built in the 18th century, dedicated to Santa Maria Maior, the fountain in front of the church, and the square in front of the Town Hall.

There are market days on the 15th and 24th of each month.
